Fight Like a Girl 1/24/09

Happy New Year!

We are getting the Fight Like a Girl program back in swing after the holidays, finally!

We will be doing a Fight Like a Girl class on Saturday, January 24th from 1 - 4 PM.

The class will be held at:

Paradise Valley School of Karate

13647 N 32nd ST. (SE corner of 32nd St. and Thunderbird)

The class will be $50 for individuals or $40 if you bring a friend.

Fight Like a Girl (FLAG) -- This is the most popular course taught in the series. It is centered on the "Stay with People" principle and covers the most common sexual assault scenarios. (*Sexual assault scenarios means the student will actually learn how to escape from the very same positions in which rapists carry out their attacks.) This module is especially effective for attacks in parking lots, parking garages and other areas where it is imperative that you not be taken to a secondary location where you can be raped and murdered. The innovative method developed here is to start students in the worst position possible -- the attacker has you pinned on the ground and is in between your thighs. (Once this concept is mastered, all of the other attacks seem easy by comparison.) Students learn to effectively defend against this position as well as chokes, hits, and grabs. They learn to escape the dreaded and deadly "blitz" attack from behind as well as how to defend their space and keep an attacker from conducting a successful "interview".

I thought your class last night was invaluable! I simply can't thank you enough for offering it! I wrote the entire Vineyard Christian Church MOPS group this morning to encourage them to attend!

loved it tonight and have honestly never felt more
powerful and also for the first time in a long time, I

I participated in the Fight like a Girl class already and had a great experience, it was interesting, educational, and I learned a new skill.

The instructor was very professional and raised some awareness about the importance of knowing how to react in a critical situation to which any woman could be exposed.

I definitively recommend this training to mothers and teens.

I thought the class was GREAT--so worthwhile, and I really appreciate
Cory letting us beat him up for real. I have taken many self-defense
classes, but none as practical as this one, and none where the teacher
actually put on full-body pads and told you to really KICK! Excellent.

I just wished other ladies would have signed up. Every woman needs to be

The class was terrific. I appreciated all of the practice time...that was
seriously lacking last time I took a self-defense class. Cory's manner was
professional, non-threatening, and light in the face of serious and scary
situations. I had the scenario I faced two years ago in my head the whole
time and kept assessing how I would have done things differently. I left
with a sense of empowerment and am SO glad you were able to make room for me
at the last minute. Thank you!!! And thanks to Val for sharing her
family's gifts with us. And of course to Cory for providing the
instruction, feedback, and body parts to aim for!

I loved the class, I felt very confident walking this morning after that class last night. Cory was an excellent teacher and the moves that were taught to defend yourself and escape were invaluable. I hope that we can schedule another advanced class with Cory.

I left with some very helpful techniques should I ever be put in that situation. And I will definitely share this with my daughter.

I really enjoyed the whole subject of the class which was “fight like a girl”. He didn’t just go the “typical” defense moves. He threw in some new techniques that I have never seen or heard of before.

I would definitely have them back. Cory seemed very knowledgeable and the both of them were very patient. That is always a plus with a wild group like ours!

I enjoyed it because it was interactive, Because of that it gives you another level of confidence. I felt “Drop and Kick” is something most us will remember even under duress.

Yes, I believe every female employee should be encouraged to take this class. Many times we find ourselves leaving late and there is no one available to walk us to our cars.

I have never been to a class like this were there was physical contact and after the first training I really did like learning hands on. All in all for me it was a good class
